Nothing is more romantic than a wedding on a tropical island. And Cuba has it all – incredible weather all-year long, white-sandy beaches for amazing pictures, a wide array of Sol Melia hotels to choose from, simple legal procedures, only hours by plane from Canada, friendly people and a very safe country makes Cuba a great option to getting married in the Caribbean. And of course, your own wedding coordinator to help you plan this memorable day!

Your travel agent and your Sol Melia wedding coordinator can help you design your perfect day. Here are a few pointers to help you get started.




Once your trip is booked, you must send us the wedding form duly completed so we can go ahead and book your wedding date with the notary public in Cuba. This form must be sent to our Toronto office at least 1 month prior to your departure date along with photocopy of your passports. Please note that weddings can be performed from Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm and that you must be in Cuba a minimum of 3 business days prior to the wedding.

Bring all your original documents with you. Your marriage will be formalized in the name stated on your passport. Your passport must therefore be correct, and the name on your passport must match that on all your other documents.

After your wedding, your Marriage Certificate will be prepared as quickly as possible and couriered at the hotel’s expense to the home address on your documents. Your marriage is legalized by the Canadian Embassy in Havana and the Cuban Foreign Affairs department.

Can the wedding date and time be confirmed before we travel?
Yes, you must previously arrange your wedding date. You should let the wedding coordinator know the exact date at least one month in advance. But we recommend sending the wedding form as soon as the trip is booked to make sure the wedding date requested is available. The wedding package is available for a minimum stay of 6 nights.

Are there any additional costs?
You may choose to have extras once in the resort such as live music at your ceremony or a video of your special day. These extras are booked and payable locally. A list of options is provided with the wedding package. When you get back to Canada, you may wish to have your wedding certificate translated from Spanish into English and this will incur a charge.

Will there be someone there to meet us?
Upon arrival, you will be given a wedding meeting invitation confirming the hour you will meet with the Wedding Coordinator of the hotel. The meeting will usually take place the day after your arrival. You will then discuss all aspects of your wedding such as the colour of your flowers. You will also have the opportunity to go through your documentation and any last minute details. In case you have any extra queries you will be given a contact number.

Where will the wedding be held? Is there a choice of venue?
Normally, the wedding takes place in the grounds of the hotel in a gazebo just off the beach, in the gardens or on the beach. All wedding locations are decorated for the ceremony. The wedding will take place in these locations weather permitting. In the event of bad weather, alternative arrangements will be made. If you wish special decoration, you can do so at an extra cost.

Will I need to be involved in any administration when I arrive in resort?
As long as all your documents are in order, no administration will be involved.

Can I choose the flowers and colour of my bouquet?
For weddings in our resorts on the northern side of the island, the florist will allow you to choose the type and colour of your flowers. There is a wide variety of flowers to choose from. The bouquet included as part of your wedding package will be of a standard design and teardrop shaped. If you wish to choose extra flowers this can be done at an extra charge.

What colour and design will the cake be?
A sponge cake with white or off white cream covering is included. The decoration will be flowers or, if you wish, you may take your own cake top decoration. The cakes are large enough for at least 12-15 people.

What will the ceremony be like?
The ceremony takes place first and this will include the exchange of wedding vows and rings (approx. _ hour). fter this is completed, a toast (sparkling wine) and cake will be offered. You will then be taken to the beach and/or around the grounds of your hotel for a photograph session.

Can I keep the negatives to my photographs? Will this incur a charge?
Yes, you can keep them free of charge. The amount of photos included depends on your wedding package. You can ask the photographer to take more photos at an extra cost.

What will the quality of the photographs be like?
Both equipment and facilities for development can be somewhat limited, therefore the photography, although developed to the highest possible standards, may not always be comparable to your standards.

When will we receive our wedding certificate?
You will receive your wedding certificate four to six weeks after your wedding takes place.

Your wedding ceremony will be held in Spanish. Your wedding coordinator at the hotel will translate your ceremony in English.

The names on your birth certificate, passport, affidavit and all other applicable documents must all match each other exactly. For example you should have no middle names or initial missing from your passport. If your documents are incorrect, they can be amended at the Consulate but this will incur a charge and of course, this could take away a day off your holiday!

Flowers: Unfortunately you cannot take your wedding flowers back to your country, neither can they be freeze dried. You are not allowed to bring flowers from a foreign country into Canada.

Special song: You can bring a cd or tape of your favourite song or choose one from the selection at the hotel. You can also request the video company to edit this song onto the video of your ceremony should you decide to have one. Or you can choose to have musicians at your ceremony and these come highly recommended (extra cost).
